Welcome!

Train delays play
Yes Train not rain.
I live near the Bluebell railway and a passing train got caught up in the trees and pulled down the telephone line. At least that's what I've been told. The train was on a transporter being driven down to the railway, I don't live THAT close to the railway line!!

However all that stopped me telling you about the excellent Hurstpierpoint Arts Festival, it finishes this weekend, we were there last weekend.
We had hoped to pick up a few new men and teach them the joys of Morris but alas they were elsewhere. Do they (You) know what they -you- are missing. We still had a great time and the locals seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves, we even got some of them joining in.

We had put aside the Wednesday evenings in September to teach new men but as we did not have any we are using the time to teach Northwest Clog dancing to our newer men who up to now have only been dancing the Cotswold style. If all of this sounds double Dutch or better still if it sounds interesting then find out more at our web site crmm.org.uk it is not too late to join and details can be found there. No I will not tell you here, you need to work for your pleasures.

Coming up soon will be what I can remember about Saddleworth, and talking of remembering, I will tell you about our Nov 5th activities as well.

Poland July 2006
It seems a long time ago since we went to Poland but with my hazy memory and the aid of lots of photos I will bring you up to date. Some of us went out on the Wednesday (26/7) the rest followed on the Friday. We had pre-booked into a hostel in Krakow and were met at the airport, great saved a lot of hassle. After dumping our bags we naturally took a tour round the marvellous city. We turned left out of the hostel then next left and wow, we found this bar..... As it was very hot we stopped for a beer. Well, over the few days that we waited for the others we managed to have breakfast, dinner and supper there. Most of us did break away and tour around the city, well worth a visit. When it was cool enough we went inside and were amazed by the interior decor. It shows the history of the city and was painted in the 1930's and must be one of the best hidden wonders of Krakow. The bars name, well to all of the Morris Men it will be forever known as ANNA'S BAR as she was the delightful young lady on duty from opening time till midnight. She works two days on and two off, definitely deserves the time off. How do you find it? Well it's called Kawiarnia Stare Mury and there are lots of references to it in the Internet so the easiest thing to do is put that in the search box and have a look. Well we eventually got to our hotel in Szczyrk found our rooms (found a bar) and sorted ourselves out. Each day we danced on stages in town or other towns, Zywiec, Oswiecim etc, all impossible to pronounce. What we did find was that everywhere there was large enthusiastic audiences that were happy to watch dance and song groups from throughout the world and sit through 5 hour shows. Can't see that happening too much in the UK but it would be great if we could get something like it underway. I suppose such events as 'Saddleworth' (see next entry) is more our style. Anyway whilst it was ok to do stage work we felt that our impromptu performances on street corners were also very much appreciated. Interestingly, when we came off stage during one performance to do bonny green (startled the organisers!!) the news of it travelled like wildfire and at the next town the wanted us to do all our performance amongst the audience. Not quite possible as there were many hundred and most would not have been able to see, so we did some and some. But of course this is where Morris is so much more flexible than set piece performances so often seen on the continent. We met some great groups, Daniel was in his element when he found a group from Spain was on the same floor as us and his linguistic skills help set up a brilliant song and dance session in the bar one evening. During our time off we visited a salt mine and danced down in its depths, and sang a song in its vast chambers, can we claim it as a first? We also visited the concentration camp at Auschwitz, naturally we did NOT dance in the concentration camp. We were however scheduled to dance in the town a few miles up the road but there was an enormous thunder storm so we had to stay in the bar and to the great delight of the owner (Piotr Janusik) danced and sang for all the afternoon, we even got him joining in. Thanks again for the free beer Piotr, and the presentation bottle of Vodka! The bar, really a restaurant, is called Restauracja Skorpion its quite famous already and if you go there I am sure there will be some photos of us. Well I am sure we have done our bit to show the Poles that we are just like them, enjoy ourselves, mix with locals, like the odd pint and have the same aspirations as they do.
Photos will be following soon.

Found again
Well I may be a Morris Dancer but I don't seem to have a good memory. However after loosing my log in and password details it has taken me months to track down all the details and get back on line.

To follow will be my exploits in Saddleworth and Poland, will also bring you up to date on what happened to the Silk Road Festival.

But for now, if you want to take up Morris Dancing, then get along to the Morris workshop 10.00am Sat 16th September, the Vinyards (opp the green) Hurstpierpoint. Its free.
If you do not know where Hurstpierpoint is,then probably you do not live in Sussex and it will be too far away for you, so make contact with me and I will let you know where else you could learn.
